Life Designer Sian Jaquet and project manager Gez Johns are helping the people change their lives in The Big Stuff

Life Designer Sian Jaquet and Project Manager Gez Johns help people to change their lives, by changing their home environment in The Big Stuff, a new series premiering tonight, Thursday June 19 at 7.30pm on TV3. The duo have just five days to save a family or couple from drowning in their own possessions, and turn their house into the home they’ve always wanted.

Jaquet is new face to television. Her career path has been boundary-less in every sense, culminating in her present role as a professional life designer.

Her wealth of experience has been gathered from across the world, and over many years in her various roles – from working in the media and public speaking, to teaching, social work, and coaching. Though above all else, Jaquet is someone who believes in helping others.

“It’s not often you get to be part of a journey where people are quite literally changing their lives in 5 days. I love my job,” she says.

Jaquet’s many skills have allowed her to develop a set of simple, but highly effective tools and processes called Foundations which enable others to make their lives more fulfilling and less complicated. It’s these tools which Sian uses in The Big Stuff.

Sian’s approach is simple; she tells it like it is – it being your life!

She has some simple tips for anyone feeling overwhelmed, offering a few ideas about where to start to begin the process.

“Make yourself the priority for one hour! Look round your home and as you enter each room list two things you could change that would cost nothing, but by doing it would make a significant difference to your life,” she says.

She also suggests people diary some time for the next weekend to sort The Big Stuff.

“Clear out one drawer, recycle those magazines, start taking responsibility for your home and your life,” she comments.

Jaquet explains, it’s not just about the family’s stuff, it’s about them.

“We’ve all been there and the issues these families have been brave enough to share with us are happening in all of our homes,” she says. “It will make you laugh, it will make you cry and sometime possibly even recognise yourself.”

The Big Stuff explores more about the issues behind the chaos.

“By the end of each episode viewers will have something to take away so they can start sorting the big stuff in there lives.”

Tonight we meet the Perkins. They are a family whose possessions have taken over,
which makes finding anything in this house impossible. But even worse, they’re under attack from their own laundry. Amongst the piles of laundry, the excess furniture, and the mountains of stuff, is a family wondering what ever happened to the perfect home they bought just three years ago.

What is really preventing this family from moving forward with their lives?

Find out tonight in a series that’s part life design, part house design. The Big Stuff will inspire you to look below the surface, and tackle the issues, Thursday June 19 at 7.30pm on TV3.

I’m visiting NZ from Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA) and have been watching Maryann and Roger stuggle as they sort through 40 years of stuff in their house. Maryann is just like my mom, and this program has been so inspirational! I hope to be able to download this program so that I can show this to her so she can see that she is not alone in this struggle and that there is a way out. Thank you!
