Now into the 7th year, POLLYWOOD continues to celebrate the talents of Pacific Island directors, producers, writers and actors by acting as a showcase for Pacific Island people working in film and multimedia art. This annual event offers an opportunity for Pacific Islanders to share their stories and ideas from grass roots and established practitioners.
Every night of three Pollywood screenings will begin with a welcome by Craig Fasi who has been the driving force behind POLLYWOOD since it’s inception in 2002. He brings with him some of the Directors of these films, who will give the audience an insight into their work with a brief Q and A at each screening venue. Directors of note screening their films are Brett Wagner, whose film “Chief” won Best Dramatic short Award at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival 2008 and achieved a Certificate of Excellence at Bafta. Justine Simei-Barton’s film “The Trophy” was invited to the 58th Internationale Filmfespiele in Berlin 2008 as well as the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival 2008. Experienced Director Damon Fepuleai will screen “In Search of Bigfoot” which was made for the 48 film competition that got a special mention by Peter Jakcson. Alongside these films, Louise Tu’u screens her film “Do Not Disturb“, Ryan Woodward “The Turtle and Shark” and a work in progress from Popo Lilo, “The Pe’a“.
The premiere of Pollywood Seven 09 is at Galatos, Galatos Street, Newton, on the 16th March at 7pm, followed by the Otara Music and Arts Centre on Wednesday 18 March at 7pm and finally the Corbans Estate Centre on March 19 at 7pm.
