Te Taua Moana Marae
Te Taua Moana is a documentary-style television series following the trials and tribulations of young Maori recruits attempting to forge a career with the Royal New Zealand Navy.
Following on from the Ngati Tumatauenga series last year (which followed recruits in the NZ Army), audiences are given an insight into the challenges of the Royal New Zealand Navy Basic Common Training Programme.
New recruits from all over Aotearoa will face a grueling basic training course at Devonport HQ – cut off from the outside world they will be thrust into military life and put through their paces in order to be able to serve for queen and country in the Royal NZ Navy
The next 10 weeks will test the physical and mental discipline of the recruits. They will be on a steep learning curve as they become familiar with their weapons, with damage control techniques. Physical fitness will play an important factor in their lives, parades and drills and of course the reality of Mess Deck life and what is known as ‘corrective training’.
Te Taua Moana will be broadcast on Maori TV at 9:30 Mondays from 8 June 2009.
