‘The Almighty Jonhsons’ new TV3 series

keishacastle-hughes to star in THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSON'S

A well experienced all-star cast joins together in TV 3′s new primetime series THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSON’S, produced by South Pacific Pictures. The series is due to start shooting today, Monday July 5th 2010.

Tim Balme (Maddigan’s Quest, Mercy Peak, Shortland Street), Dean O’Gorman (McLeod’s Daughters, Shortland Street), Jared Turner (Go Girls, Power Rangers) and newcomer Emmett Skilton star as the Johnson brothers: Mike, Anders, Ty and Axl.

The Johnsons are four ordinary Kiwi brothers who have inherited the powers of Norse Gods. But Norse Gods lived a long time ago, and over many generations, their powers have become diluted. So the Johnsons aren’t like those flashy cartoon superheroes, they are typical Kiwi blokes who don’t much like to stand out from the crowd. This is New Zealand after all, and if Godzone really had gods, and they walked among us, let’s face it…you probably wouldn’t even notice.

These everyday gods also have everyday struggles – striving to love stroppy women, overcoming sibling rivalry and fulfilling your God-like destiny, all while still finding the time to enjoy a few beers with your mates.

Ben Barrington (Outrageous Fortune, The Insiders Guide to Love, The Strip) joins the show as the Johnsons’ forever young grandfather, Olaf. Rounding out the series cast is Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider, The Vintner’s Luck), Roz Turnbull (Outrageous Fortune, Spies & Lies, Stolen), Alison Bruce (This Is Not My Life, Legend of the Seeker), Michelle Langstone (McLeod’s Daughters, This is Not My Life)

THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSONS was created and written by James Griffin (Outrageous Fortune, Sione’s Wedding, Serial Killers) and Rachel Lang (Go Girls, Outrageous Fortune, Mercy Peak). Actor Tim Balme (Outrageous Fortune, Stolen and Brown Brothers) also worked as a storyliner and script writer on the series.

The 10 x one hour comedy-drama series is being produced by Simon Bennett (Outrageous Fortune, Spies and Lies, Maddigan’s Quest, Shortland Street) for South Pacific Pictures. Directors include Mark Beesley (Legend of the Seeker, Outrageous Fortune) and Murray Keene (Outrageous Fortune, Shortland Street, Diplomatic Immunity). The production, which will be shot in and around Auckland, has received funding from NZ on Air and will screen on TV3 in 2011.
