Stunt documentary featuring Zoe Bell set for Prime

by Bradley Walker on October 16, 2007

Zoe Bell cut her teeth as a stunt woman playing Lucy Lawless’ body double in XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. “To begin with, I was pretty much being kicked around by Lucy Lawless, but I was there for three years and learned a lot,” Zoe says.

In the years following XENA, Zoe continued working as a stunt woman, scoring roles in small films and TV. Next stop was Los Angeles where Zoe found herself doing her first-ever audition for KILL BILL in front of director Quentin Tarantino, Uma Thurman and Daryl Hannah. Initially Zoe was hired to be Uma Thurman’s “smash and crash” body double, but the stunt team soon realised she would make an ideal double for fight scenes.

DOUBLE DARE takes a look at how Bell and fellow stuntwoman Jeannie Epper have managed to break into Hollywood’s stunt scene, becoming two of the industry’s most respected stunt doubles.

Tarantino recently cast Bell in her first lead role in the upcoming movie, DEATH PROOF. In 2004, Bell was nominated at the Taurus World Stunt Awards for “Best Overall Stunt by a Woman” and “Best Fight” for the knife fight in KILL BILL: VOLUME 1. A year later she went on to win “Best Fight” for KILL BILL: VOLUME 2.

The documentary follows Bell’s move to Hollywood, her stunt work on KILL BILL and her plans for the future.

DOUBLE DARE, Wednesday 31st October on Prime, at 8.30pm
